Sad news for those who loved the Vancouver Island legend Jerry Paquette. The Nanaimo musician, recording engineer  and producer died of Pancreatic Cancer on May 21st, just shy of his 61st birthday. Sunday June 6th was his Memorial. He will be missed by all.

As a young developing Vancouver Island musician I have many memories of Jerry Paquette. He was a mentor as a musician, recording engineer and human. Jerry ran a very popular home based studio, Raincoast Studio, with some of the nicest equipment that any studio, or musician could wish to have and he pretty much shared it with everybody. The list of Canadian musicians that Jerry recorded is extensive. Hundreds of musicians came to Raincoast Studio. Jerry's extensive recording knowledge, his fantastic studio and his calming, supportive personality inspired many.

Thanks for everything Jerry, what a long strange trip its been.

OK... So if you are wondering why there hasn't been any recent posts on the front page of Rocking OVer 40 as of late, it's because... We're on Vacation - That is my family and I. I have returned to Vancouver Island, the place of my childhood and formative Rock and Roll years. As such, things will be a bit low-key over the next few weeks. However, I hope to cover some local Rocking Over 40 West Coast history and events. Have a great summer everyone!

This is our special R/40 West Coast tribute to all those great bands that were formative to kids like me thrashing, rocking, dreaming of playing on stage and growing up on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. One of my all time favorites No Means No! These guys are still like cult super heros to kids all over the West Coast (and Europe apparently) and they definately are Rocking OVer 40!

 R/40 EVENT!!!

August, 2010

3812 St. Laurent Blv.

Date & Bands: TBA

  • T-Shirts & More

Sorry for the lack of updates for the R/40 featured artist section, things have been busy at HQ and we got behind in our work. So with that said… This weeks featured Rocking Over 40 artist is Mike Reilly A.K.A. Blues-bard… Mike is from Montreal and a man of many talents: musical historian, singer, songwriter and excellent roots blues/folk musician. He has an impressive resume of bands and artists he has backed up as a much sought after stand up bass player in the Montreal music scene. More recently over the last few years he has put his chops and musical discipline towards finger style root blues and folk guitar. We were lucky enough to catch him live in performance here in Montreal recently and he did not disappoint. His impressive finger picking chops combined with his powerful but relaxing baritone voice filled the room with some of the best post war folk blues I have heard in a while. You can check out his music, bio and other contributions here. Thanks for your support Blues-Bard!

The Rocking Over 40 team is out of hibernation, the RPM Challenge is over! This year was indeed a challenge, maybe even painful. Regardless the music prevailed (or at least was recorded) and another RPM Challenge has come and gone.  What about all those R/40 members partaking in this years RPM CD Challenge? Drop us a line, post some of your music (or pictures of empty beer cans) - let us know how the Challenge was for you. For those of you who don't know what the RPM Challenge is it is to write, record and produce a full 35 min + of original music (or 10 songs) in the month of February - Easy right?
