It’s Time to Change the Conversation Because We Are Badass Women
I noticed lately that when I get together with girlfriends we spend a good amount of time whining, complaining, bitching and moaning about the perils of aging.
The wrinkles have sneaked up, the weight keeps coming on even though our diets and exercise routines haven’t changed, the eyesight just keeps getting worse, the knees hurt when we climb stairs, our menstrual cycles are all wacky, the gray hairs are taking over, we hit peak tiredness by 8 p.m., and on and on. You get the gist.
It’s like suddenly we realize we’re middle-aged and our conversations change.
We commiserate with others who understand us, and naturally, we support our collective misery most likely over a nice glass of wine which tends to ease the agony.
But, let’s not become too comfortable with this identity.
Anyone that hears us would say that we are bitter old ladies, that it’s all downhill from here, and we’re doomed to a life of physical ailments.
But that is far from the truth, right ladies?
Looking back on these conversations, I find them quite amusing actually. Because what they don’t hear us say (and something we should talk about more often) are all the inner changes that begin to occur in our 40s as well.
While reaching your 40s is a significant aging milestone, the happy truth is that we have reached an age where self-doubt diminishes, our confidence levels peak, we are emotionally stronger, we rock our own style, and we finally feel in control of our lives.
Now if that isn’t something to talk about then I don’t know what is.
So, next time you find yourself in a similar situation, put down your wine, toss your hair aside, play some gangsta rap, put on your Rocking Over 40 face, and let them hear the whole darn truth.
Cheers!
